Extending Ethernet and PoE Beyond 100 m

The T8129 addresses a practical limitation of conventional copper Ethernet installations.

Instead of installing another powered network switch after the first 100 m, the extender can be connected inline between compatible cable segments. It receives power from the PoE source and forwards both Ethernet data and available PoE power toward the connected device.

Depending on the installation, additional T8129 units can be used at approximately 100 m intervals.

However, maximum distance is not the same for every camera or PoE source. Higher-power devices generally permit shorter extension distances than low-power devices.

Axis provides examples demonstrating how power consumption affects maximum distance.

For a device requiring approximately 25 W, Axis gives an example of reaching approximately 200 m (656 ft) using one T8129 with an appropriate power source and cable configuration.

For a lower-power network device requiring approximately 5 W, Axis gives an example where the total connection may reach 400 m (1,312 ft) using three T8129 extenders at approximately 100 m intervals.

These are configuration examples rather than guaranteed distances for every installation.

Distance Depends on PoE Power Requirements

Axis categorizes extension capability according to device power demand.
